Don’t Tax Medicine Campaign

Unlike other medicines, medicinal cannabis is subject to sales tax. Since cannabis is already quite expensive, many patients struggle to afford the high price of keeping their symptoms controlled. Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana (CFAMM) is intensifying their
Don’t Tax Medicine campaign to oppose ALL taxes on medical cannabis. The GI Society is a supporter of their campaign.

The 2019 Federal Budget will be announced in the House of Commons in late February, and CFAMM is organizing the next phase of this campaign around the budget announcement. They are calling on the Finance Minister Bill Morneau, the House Standing Committee on Finance, and all members of Parliament to remove all taxes on medical cannabis before the budget is finalized.

These unjust taxes hurt vulnerable Canadians, including seniors, veterans, and sick children. You can help out by writing a letter to your local MP, provincial MPP/MLA, and members of the House Standing Committee on Finance, urging them to remove all taxes on medical cannabis.
